If you've ever wondered about the magic behind linocut art prints, you’re in the right place. As a linocut artist, I want to share with you the journey that brings each print to life—from the first idea to the final piece hanging on your wall.
How Linocut Art Prints Come to Life
Creating linocut art prints is a deeply personal and hands-on process. It all starts with a block of linoleum. I spend hours (sometimes days!) designing and carving out the print, carefully planning each cut. There’s something incredibly meditative about this—it's just me, my carving tools, and the block...plus the dog begging to play!
Once the carving is done, I ink the block using a roller. This part always gives me a little thrill; it’s the moment where all the effort starts to come together. Then comes the printing—pressing the delicate Japanese paper onto the inked block. This paper is beautiful but it also holds fine details like a dream, making sure every line I’ve carved shines through.
Every print is unique. The process isn’t just about creating art; it’s about telling a story with each linocut. The slight variations in each print remind me that there’s beauty in imperfection—a theme that resonates through all my work.
Why I Fell in Love with Linocut Art
Why linocut, you ask? For me, it’s about connection. The physical act of carving brings me closer to my subject, whether it’s a beautiful plant or an eye-catching object. Linocut art prints allow me to capture a moment, a feeling, and share it with you in a way that’s both personal and timeless.
This blog isn’t just a place to showcase my work; it’s where I’ll share the stories behind my linocut art prints, the techniques I use, and the inspiration that fuels my creativity. Whether you’re new to linocut or have a deep appreciation for handcrafted art, I hope to inspire you to see the world through this unique lens.
Lots of love,
Eleanor.
